New home for Haleiwa Farmers Market

The Haleiwa Farmers Market opens at its new home Thursday, Aug. 9 — a hop, skip and jump from Haleiwa at Waimea Valley’s Pikake Pavillion and lawn.

The market also moves from a morning to evening format, running 3 to 7 p.m. Organizers call it a “farm-to-fork” market, reflecting an increased number of prepared-food vendors. Call 388-9696 or email haleiwafarmersmarket@gmail.com.

Kunia gets farmers market

Leeward residents can enjoy the convenience of another area farmers market, this time at Kunia Shopping Center, starting 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10. Run by Mahiku Farms, the market will be open weekly. Call 225-4002.

Burmese chef explores India

Fans of chef Aye Aye Maw can sign up for another of her pop-up Burmese dinners, to be served up at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11.

The Indian-inspired menu comprises five courses: Cucumber Salad (from local farms), Bayar Kyaw (crispy pea flour fritters with dipping sauce), Mixed Vegetable Curry (featuring 10 vegetables) with Myanmar-style biriyani rice, and Faluda (custard, jelly and tapioca dessert). Cost is $20; drinks are extra.

The dinner will be held at Lemongrass Café, 83 N. King St. Make reservations at 851-7010 or carolina@pacificgatewaycenter.org.
