Few comedians have the filmography of Mike Epps.

The Indianapolis comedian has more than 40 acting credits, with his most memorable roles being Day-Day from the Ice Cube films “Next Friday” and “Friday After Next,” and Black Doug from “The Hangover” and last year’s “The Hangover III.”

But his next role might top them all.

Epps stars opposite Zoe Saldana as Richard Pryor in “Nina,” the Nina Simone bio-pic due out later this year. After agreeing to play the iconic comedian, Epps asked permission from Pryor’s widow, Jennifer Pryor, who gave him her blessing.

And while his turn as Pryor comes in a drama, Epps is still as funny as ever in his stand-up performances. He makes a stop on his “Mike Epps After Dark” tour at Hawaii Theatre on Saturday.
